How does the Footprint Platform calculate carbon emissions?
The calculation follows a widespread approach based on activity data and corresponding emission factors.
Activity data can be either physical (e.g. fuel- or energy consumption, or travel distance), spend-based (e.g. expenses), or otherwise estimation-based proxy data (e.g. number of employees), depending on availability.
The Footprint Intelligence Platform contains over 15 000 emission factors, which are obtained from highly renowned, peer-reviewed studies and databases like Ecoinvent, Exiobase or Defra.
Additionally, you can use your own emission factors, e.g. when supplier- or product-specific emission factors are availible.
